Portland Cheers to Belgian Beers includes Homebrew Competition

The Portland Cheers to Belgian Beers (PCTBB) will have it's fourth annual festival on May 1, 2010 at Hopworks Urban Brewery. The festival consists of local breweries brewing Belgian-style beers, all using the same strain of yeast. This year they are adding a homebrew competition. Start brewing soon, especially if you want to enter a stronger brew that needs aging.

The yeast this year is a limited edition Wyeast 3726 Farmhouse Ale. Our store is one of the few carrying this yeast. It is a limited run so when we run out--we run out. More information past the cut...

The winner of the main competition each year hosts the event next year. (Hopworks won last year, thus they are hosting.) See the official site for more information (note the homebrew competition section). Basically, the beers will be judged from the following BJCP styles:

Category 16: Belgian and French Ale
• 16A Witbier
• 16B Belgian Pale Ale
• 16C Saison
• 16D Biere de Garde
• 16E Belgian Specialty Ale (Belgian IPA, Stout, Barleywine, Whatever!) Includes sours, note bjcp style
Category 18: Belgian Strong Ale
• 18A Belgian Blond Ale
• 18B Belgian Dubbel
• 18C Belgian Tripel
• 18D Belgian Golden Strong Ale
• 18E Belgian Dark Strong Ale

Prizes will be awarded to top three finishers in each category and a grand winner will get to design and brew a beer with Hopworks.
